Job Summary

The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Emergency Financial Assistance Specialist  will act as a case manager for wounded Post 9/11 veterans and service members, providing one-on-one assessments of their financial needs at crucial moments in their lives. The Emergency Financial Assistance Specialist will assess if needs are within policy guidelines, provide connections to resources and guidance for the Warriors to make better informed decisions regarding their personal financial situation. The process will encompass review of policy guidelines, triage of needs to ensure they are within guidelines as well as connecting with external resources when necessary.




Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interview Warriors over the phone or in person to conduct needs assessments, assess request for program eligibility, and gather supporting documentation as required
  • Provide crisis intervention services and connect with internal or external resources when necessary
  • Communicate program policies and services clearly, accurately, and respectfully to internal and external clients
  • Maintain detailed accounts of Warrior interactions to include progress, evaluations, recommendations, and facilitated payments to vendors
  • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround time, streamline work process, and work jointly to provide seamless customer service
  • Create and develop reports and briefings as required
  • Other duties as assigned




Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Understanding of and sensitivity to the unique needs of veterans, and their family members/caregivers
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability to work cooperatively with veteran and civilian financial support organizations, social services, and legal personnel
  • Ability to organize and analyze multiple data sources and events into a cohesive result, using various analytical tools and technologies, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, and Salesforce
  • Ability to positively influence others to achieve goals and impact decision-making
  • Ability to create data-based presentations to help achieve objectives aligned with the Financial Wellness strategy
  • Proven self-starter with high initiative track record
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure with minimal supervision
  • Ability to identify risks and opportunities to management and prioritize competing demands for resources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities successfully
  • Excellent decision-making abilities 

Broad skills in financial assistance methodology:

  • Financial counseling and handling of referrals to other WWP Partnership resources as needed
  • Identify regional resources for financial assistance, including the requirements and regulations within the programs specific to veterans

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of one (1) year prior experience with crisis interactions required
  • Minimum of one (1) year personal financial counseling preferred
  • Familiarity with military culture and challenges preferred
